Being Green: Upcoming Earth Day Activities

Whether you are planning to plant a tree, clean-up a local park, plant flowers around your yard, take a bike ride or hike a local trail, get out there and celebrate Earth Day!

April 20th – Earth Day Celebration – 10a – 3p (Flint)
Event will feature over 25 exhibitors and presenters including the Sierra Club will be distributing tree seedlings to all attendees while supplies last.  Activities for kids include a hands-on touch table with a lot of furs, bones, rocks, bird nests and more.   There will also be a lunch & learn cooking demonstration, bike tour, and more.  For more information, please contact 810-766-6763.   Location:  300 East 1st Street, Flint (48502).

April 22nd – Earth Day Recycling Event – 9a – 2p (Okemos)
Join Green Meridian for an Earth Day Recycling Event at Chippewa Middle School! This regional spring recycling event is open to all to recycle unwanted electronics, household items, clothing, latex paint and more.  Check the flyer here for more information.

April 22nd – Free Admission to W. K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary – 9a – 5p (Augusta)
Grab a friend and enjoy free admission to the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary to celebrate Earth Day!  Location:  12685 East C Avenue, Augusta (49012).

April 22nd – Great Cloth Diaper Change 2017 – 9a – 12p (Lansing)
Join Mother & Earth Baby Boutique to celebrate Earth Day and help set a cloth diaper changing world record!  No cloth diaper, no problem, limited quantities will be available for use.  Just let staff know when you check-in.   Local vendors and a cloth diaper buy/sell/trade will round out this Earth Friendly event.  Actual cloth diaper changee will take place at 11a.  Register online today!  Location: 1213 Turner Street, Lansing (48906).

April 22nd – GreenFest at the Detroit Zoo – 9a – 3p (Royal Oak)
Activities include chemistry demo, worm composting education, zookeeper talks, and more!  Event is free with paid zoo admission.  Each GreenFest guest who brings a cell phone for recycling will receive a reduced admission price of $9. Location:  8450 West 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak (48067).

April 22nd – Experience Earth Day – 10a – 4p (Midland)
Celebrate Earth Day with the Chippewa Nature Center by participating in stewardship activities to benefit planet Earth!  Learn about invasive exotic plants, plant a young tree or shrub to enrich biodiversity, build a birdhouse and learn how to monitor nest boxes, and drop off your recycling.  Free admission for all ages, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Location: 400 South Badour Road, Midland (48640).

April 22nd – Go Wild! Celebrate Earth Day! – 10a – 2p (Saginaw)
Join the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square for a fun-filled day of games and activities centered around protecting our environment.  Free admission for the first 400 guests with a recyclable beverage container.  Free reusable tote bags and tree saplings while supplies last (one per family).   This will also be the Zoo’s opening day for the season.  General admission will be $5 after the first 400 guests.  Free for members.   Train and carousel rides are just $1/each per person.   NOTE:  Due to the event’s popularity, parking may fill up quickly.  We suggest you arrive early.   Location:  1730 South Washington Avenue, Saginaw (48601).

April 22nd – Celebrate Earth Day – 10a – 3p (Lowell)
Join the Wittenbach Wege Center – Agriscience & Environmental Education for a Smart Start Garden Class & Healthy Soils Workshop, learn to create beautiful gardens, grow foods you love to eat, invasive species removal, and more.   This event is FREE, but a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged.  Reservations required – contact or call 616-987-2565.  Location: 11715 Vergennes Street, Lowell (49331).

April 22nd – The Big Green Gig:  A Peace and Earth Day Celebration – 3p – 6p (East Lansing)
Join the Community Relations Coalition and other local organizations for a family-friendly Earth Day celebration.   Activities include decorating flowerpots, drum circles, plant giveaways, a model bio-dome, live music, and much, much more!  Location:  300 Valley Court, East Lansing (48823).

April 22nd – Kalamazoo Earth Day – 3p – 8p (Kalamazoo)
Learn, celebrate, and take action; music, art, speakers, food, drinks, games, crafts, and more!!  Location:  Bronson Park, Downtown Kalamazoo (49007).

April 23rd – Earth Day Festival – 12p – 4p (Ann Arbor)
Join the Leslie Science & Nature Center for a free, family-friendly event featuring displays from 40 local environmental, non-profit, and governmental organizations, live animal demonstrations, hands-on activities, live entertainment, green building and commuting technologies, energy topics, water awareness, sustainable agriculture and more.  Location:  1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor (48105).
